The Gut-Bone Axis in Midlife Women: Inflammation, Bone Health, and Emerging Clinical Solutions

Midlife is a pivotal time for women’s health, with shifts in hormones, inflammation, and gut function influencing bone health in important ways. This two-hour webinar brings together Felice Gersh, MD and Mark Charbonneau, PhD, moderated by Bridgette Briggs, MD, for an expert discussion on the gut-bone axis and its relevance to women in midlife.

Through scientific insights, clinical perspective, and panel discussion, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how inflammation affects bone health, why the gut-bone connection matters, and how these changes may contribute to declining bone density, including osteopenia and osteoporosis. The session will explore the unique bone health challenges women face during midlife and consider how emerging approaches fit within a broader strategy to support skeletal health and overall well-being.

Learning Objectives:

  1.   Explore the relationship between the gut-bone axis and bone health in midlife women.
  2.   Explain how inflammation contributes to changes in bone metabolism, bone density, and the development or progression of bone loss and osteopenia during the midlife transition.
  3.   Discuss the physiologic and clinical factors that make midlife women uniquely vulnerable to inflammation-related bone health concerns.
  4.   Review lifestyle strategies and the role of Bōndia as a novel option for supporting bone health and addressing osteopenia in midlife women.
