Clinical Mastery of Hormones: Integrating Metabolites, Metabolism, and Patient Patterns.

As hormone therapy, metabolic dysregulation, and age-related concerns continue to rise, clinicians need a clear and science-grounded understanding of how hormones truly work. Yet, the current assessment model of measuring parent hormones in serum provides a view only into hormone production, and leaves out what happens when hormones interact with receptors at a tissue level.  Understanding how to incorporate key hormone metabolites into your clinical assessment can provide a much more complete understanding of your patient’s hormone picture.

This course brings those pieces together.

Led by Deanna Minich, Mark Newman, Dr. Jaclyn Smeaton, this masterclass offers a deep exploration of hormone pathways, metabolic patterns, and the interconnected systems that shape patient symptoms. You’ll learn to recognize the signatures of hormonal imbalance, understand how metabolism influences—and is influenced by—endocrine activity, and identify meaningful patterns in complex presentations.

While the DUTCH Test will be used to illustrate real-world examples, the focus of the course is on building a solid, clinically relevant understanding of hormone physiology, specifically targeting estrogen and progesterone, androgens, and cortisol. Through case studies and guided interpretation, you’ll see how foundational concepts translate into practice and how they can support targeted, patient-centered treatment strategies.

You’ll leave with greater clarity around hormones, deeper metabolic insight, and a strong framework for approaching hormone-related dysfunction.

    Mark Newman, MS
    Precision Analytical Inc.

Mark Newman, MS, is a recognized expert and international speaker in the field of hormone testing. Mark spent nearly 25 years developing and directing 24-hour urine, organic acid, and salivary hormone testing labs. His unique experience led him to pursue a revolutionary way to test hormones. So Mark began his own lab, Precision Analytical Inc., to create the most comprehensive functional hormone test available, DUTCH® (a Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones). His vision for a better way to test hormones drove Mark to co-write multiple peer-reviewed research papers, which prove the effectiveness and accuracy of dried urine testing to comprehensively evaluate hormone health. Mark is committed to making it easier for patients and their healthcare providers to answer complex clinical questions through extensive education on validated hormone research. Every day, he and his team of experts work toward their mission to profoundly change one life, and then a million more through industry-leading functional hormone testing and education.

Nutritionist, Scientist, Lecturer, Educator, Author Food and Spirit, LLC

Dr. Deanna Minich is a nutrition scientist, functional medicine educator, and author with more than two decades of experience exploring how hormones, metabolism, nutrition, and lifestyle intersect to shape human health. Her work integrates endocrinology, phytonutrient science, circadian biology, and systems medicine to help clinicians understand hormonal physiology within the broader context of metabolic function and daily living. In addition to her role as Chief Science Officer at Symphony Natural Health, she is the 2025 recipient of the Linus and Ava Helen Pauling Award in Functional Medicine and serves on the Board of Directors for the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute. Dr. Minich has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and several books and has been a longtime faculty member for the Institute for Functional Medicine and other professional training programs. Her teaching emphasizes the foundational role of nutrition, phytonutrients, stress physiology, sleep, circadian alignment, and environmental inputs in shaping hormonal expression across the lifespan. She is particularly known for her work in environmental health and metabolic detoxification, illuminating how toxicants, metabolic load, and detoxification pathways influence endocrine function and overall hormonal resilience. Dr. Minich’s current work focuses on the metabolic and environmental drivers of endocrine imbalance, the hormone–mitochondria connection, and the ways food, lifestyle, and daily rhythms can support long-term hormonal vitality and well-being.
