Founder and President
Jeffrey Bland has been an internationally recognized leader in the nutritional medicine field for over 30 years. Dr. Bland served as Chief Science Officer for Metagenics for the past 12 years and also served as their President for five of those 12 years. He founded HealthComm International, Inc. in 1985, and served as its Chief Executive Officer until the merger with its strategic partner, Metagenics, in 2000.
As the principal visionary of HealthComm, Dr. Bland had already distinguished the company as a leader in the development of medical foods by the time of the merger. He had also established the internationally respected Institute for Functional Medicine to train health practitioners globally in the application of nutritional and functional medicine.
A nutritional biochemist and registered clinical laboratory director, Dr. Bland is a former professor of biochemistry at the University of Puget Sound, and a previous Director of Nutritional Research at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine. Dr. Bland has authored five books on nutritional medicine for the healthcare professional and five books on nutrition and health for the general public. He is also the principal author of over 120 peer-reviewed research papers on nutritional biochemistry.
Committed to advancing education in the natural health sciences, Dr. Bland was the first member of the Board of Trustees of Bastyr University in Washington State, the first federally accredited university in the United States offering graduate and undergraduate degrees in natural medicine, and contributed significantly to its founding and accreditation. With his highly regarded seminar series on science-based nutrition and health, Dr. Bland continues to focus on providing practical education to healthcare professionals worldwide.
Dr. Bland holds numerous patents for nutritional products and oversees the activities of the Functional Medicine Research Center and the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Tom brings over thirty years of global experience, business leadership, and legal expertise to PLMI. Most recently, Tom served as the executive leader and CEO of the Michigan Municipal Services Authority, an organization designed to deliver health and wellness offerings to local units of government in the State of Michigan. He also served as Director of Portfolio Company Management for Alticor Corporate Enterprises and Vice President of Global Business Development for Metagenics Inc. Mr. Curran is the former Chairman of the Board and CEO of Interleukin Genetics, a molecular diagnostics company, based in metro Boston. He is the former Chief Legal Officer for Access Business Group LLC, a manufacturing and distribution company and wholly owned subsidiary of Alticor Inc. Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts from Providence College, a Master of International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School.
Vice President, Finance
Lincoln Bouillon is the Vice President of Finance for the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute and the Chief Financial Officer and Secretary-Treasurer for KinDex Therapeutics, a biotech company that is developing a drug for type 2 diabetes. Prior to joining PLMI, Lincoln served in Management at Metagenics’ Functional Medicine Research Center in Gig Harbor, most recently as Director of Clinical Research. Lincoln holds an MBA and a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry. His prior work experience includes the High Tech and Chemical industries, and college-level science instruction.

Trish has worked with Dr. Jeffrey Bland in his functional medicine activities for the past 16 years. Initially hired to work at HealthComm, Trish went on to work as Marketing Manager for the Institute for Functional Medicine, and then as Managing Director for Synthesis by Jeffrey Bland, PhD. Trish oversees the monthly publication of Dr. Bland’s long-running audio journal, Functional Medicine Update, and she has the responsibility of managing his extensive archive of intellectual property. Trish was born and raised in San Francisco and has a degree in English from San Francisco State University.
Annette is the Operations Manager for Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute (PLMI). Annette applies her 30 years of experience in business administration to PLMI. She possesses advanced computer software skills and is a highly skilled project manager, gifted at solving problems in an ever changing environment. Prior to joining PLMI, Annette was at a software start-up as an Executive Assistant and internally promoted to Sales Engineer where she was best able to apply her skills in creating manuals and protocols for performance. Annette has a diverse background having lived in many parts of the USA and UK. She has made the Puget Sound region her home for the last 19 years.
